The Darth Revan armor we got years ago does not look anything like Revan's real darkside armor in KOTOR. While we can get a look alike with black/brown dye and red dye for robes with the Jedi version. It is still not Darth Revan's armor. This is simply an idea because from a developer stand point you can literally take the design of the Jedi.

So it's not surprising the "lore" outfits have a slightly updated look. The current version isn't so much an "update", though, as a simple recoloring of other items.
